Partial Die Cutting Tutorial

Hi everyone, this is Shelley here today with an easy tutorial for you. Steel dies can add so much interest to stamped images. Our creative team has been experimenting with partial die cutting using the floral stamps and matching dies from the Greenhouse Society collection.

I thought you might like a tutorial so you can use the partial die cutting technique on your own projects!
Step 1:
Place the steel die, with the cutting edge down, on a piece of cardstock. Set the top plate of your cutting sandwich so that is only partially over the die. The portion that is under the top plate is the part that will get cut out. Run it through your die cutting machine.
Step 2:
The result will be a partially cut piece of cardstock. Place it on your trimmer (or use scissors) and cut from the top of the cardstock panel to the top of the die cut image. Do the same from the bottom of the cardstock panel to the bottom of the die cut image.

Step 3:
You'll end up with a cardstock panel that looks like this.
Step 4:
Place your stamp on a clear block and stamp on the die cut piece.
Step 5:
Now for the fun part...color your design!

To create the pink hyacinth card above, we heat embossed the flower using white embossing powder, then colored it with watercolor markers.
I hope you enjoyed seeing these projects and this tutorial.
